BME Metallurgy is the minerals processing division of explosives manufacturer BME, a subsidiary of diversified chemicals group Omnia Holdings. It was previously known as Protea Mining Chemicals (PMC), until Omnia Holdings aligned PMC with BME to form a unified mining segment in 2024.

A mining chemicals supplier for more than 50 years, the company is showcasing its offering at this year's Investing African Mining Indaba.

BME Metallurgy’s team of expert metallurgists and product specialists deliver advanced solutions across mineral processing, hydrometallurgy, pyrometallurgy and biometallurgy, supporting mines to enhance metal extraction and recovery efficiency. By combining innovation, safety and efficiency, BME Metallurgy offers tailored approaches that address each site’s unique minerals recovery challenges.

The company’s innovative chemical products and technical expertise assist customers in achieving sustainable and optimised results for their minerals processing operations, redefining resource recovery with solutions that maximise ore value while reducing environmental impact and operational costs.

BME Metallurgy delivers minerals processing solutions in Africa and beyond with a footprint covering 19 countries, including South Africa, Namibia, Botswana, Zimbabwe, Zambia, Eswatini, Tanzania, Guinea, Mozambique, the Democratic Republic of Congo, Sierra Leone, Mali, Mauritania and Senegal.

Mining Weekly interviewed BME Mining Chemicals GM Lefa Masiuana at the company's Mining Indaba stand on Wednesday about how BME Metallurgy is positioned to better serve the mining industry, especially in Africa.
